VCS: Video Copy Services

Content Solutions by VCS

October, 2012 – The Dog Days of Summer are behind us and Autumn is here! At VCS that means we transition from "summer hours" and return to standard business hours. This allows time to prepare for the fall broadcast and consumer based holiday season, which traditionally is the "busy time" in the industry. Although production continues around the clock as needed, office hours are now 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

In this issue of Content Solutions, explore the Digital Video Encoding services offered at VCS. Digital video encoding is the process of Ingesting your existing media assets and Encoding them to a digital file in preparation of your Distribution channel. If you work with video, sooner or later you will need to commit your work to a digital file. You will need to make sure that you encode your footage using the best possible methods for the best possible results. Do you know the best practices for encoding your video assets? VCS does, and is leading the way with the broadest range of supported digital video file formats and codecs in the Southeast.

Thanks for reading and for keeping us on your mail list!

From Tape: The digital encoding process starts by ingesting and capturing your content into a Non-Linear Editing system. VCS utilizes both Final Cut Pro and Adobe Premiere Pro systems, combined with the professional grade family of AJA Kona cards.

The ingest of standard definition broadcast formats range from Betacam SP, Digital Betacam, DVCam, IMX and more all the way up to today's HD Broadcast formats including DVCPRO HD, XDCAM, HDCAM and HDCAM SR. All of these plus many more broadcast formats are supported at VCS. Not only can VCS do it all, the trained staff understands the importance of all globally adopted frame rates and resolutions!

Not a broadcaster, not a problem for VCS. Consumer grade formats are also available for ingest and encoding projects.

From File: Do you have a digital asset? Consider uploading to VCS' FTP site or VCS' Web Portal. You can even supply your files on disc, flash drive or external hard drive. VCS can accept hard drives with eSATA, Thunderbolt, Firewire 800 & 400 and USB connections. If you are unsure about the best method to summit your files, contact VCS today for support and recommendations.

Unlike other video encoding services that would simply have you upload your footage to an automated "one size fits all" system, VCS has trained and seasoned professionals on staff to ensure that your unique video gets the proper, personal care and attention it deserves. The result is simply the highest quality digital video encoding possible.

Once ingested VCS can edit your asset, change and modify audio stems, create & add watermarks, network bugs or titling. VCS can even add Closed Captioning for web streaming.

Do you require files for streaming, editing or re-purposing? VCS can transcode your ingested assets and create the file you need for any application. Virtually every supported Codec including the ProRes Family, H.264, J2k... are all available. Does your specification require a specialty Codec or file? No problem. VCS supports REDCODE, AVID, AJA, Blackmagic and many others specialty Codecs along with files such as MXF or DPX.

Print to Tape: Do you need to create and distribute broadcast tape copies of your video file? The trained technicians at VCS can assist you by creating broadcast quality products using Serial Digital Interface components. Both Standard and Hi Definition tape formats are available including HDCAM and HDCAM SR. For a limited time you can save 20% on your next print to tape product at VCS.
